CORNELIUS / St. Louis ANCESTRY PAGES
My father's paternal & maternal family heritage seems to be centered in the northern and western Pennsylvania counties and some adjacent southern New York counties. Specifically Mercer county, Pa. between Greenville and Mercer; Venango County, Pa. in Dempseytown and McKean County, Pa, in Bradford. Initially, the Cornelius' came from New York State, but I have not identified from what specific place in New York State. From there, the family migrated to Pennsylvania and then to the city of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan where at that time opportunities for employment and a better life seemed abundant.
Family photos, scrapbooks, etc were passed down to me from my father. This is an on-going project and I will update as new information is discovered. Photos are identified when known but many are unknown. I am hoping that someone out there has the same photos, since families and friends often shared photos, and thus we can identify more ancestors. Please feel free to contact me via the e-mail link below if you would like.
Surnames in this branch of my pedigree are: CORNELIUS, St. LOUIS, DEMPSEY, THOMPSON, MILES, HITCHCOK, HAYS, OTTO, CARTER, GRAY, ADDLEMAN, TITUS
Surnames of friends of the family or relatives by marriage: CREESE, STRANAHAN, MIDDLEBROUGH
MOTTO/SCHULLER ANCESTRY PAGES
My mother's paternal family is from Southern Italy, the Campagnia region, Salerno, the town of Altavilla Silentina. They immigrated in 1905 and settled along the Ohio River in east central Ohio in the towns of Stubenville, Martins Ferry, Yorkville, etc. My grandfather was a coal miner, but for better opportunities, moved his family to Detroit, Michigan. Our surname is Motto shortened from Mottola.
My mother's maternal family, specifically my great-grandfather, was also a coal miner. As near as I can make out, he began working in Pennsylvania and then moved to West Virginia. and eventually to the same east central Ohio area. Both my mother's maternal grandparents were of German origin but lived in Copsa Mare (Grosskopisch), Romania.
